How long have you been on the Board and what position do you currently hold?
I joined the board in 2013. Political Director

What municipality or organization do you represent?
Town of Innisfil

What is your educational and professional background?
Was elected to Innisfil council in 1994 . Served 20 years as councillor and one term as Deputy Mayor and Simcoe county Councillor. Elected as mayor in 2018. Appointed by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate change as Chair of the South Georgian Bay Lake Simcoe Source Protection committee since 2007. Currently serving as President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).

The OMWA is a not-for-profit organization and all Board positions, including yours, are all volunteer, what inspired you to become an OMWA Board Member?
My first experience with the OMWA was when I was asked to moderate a panel at the 2012 Drinking water summit by a Source Water colleague Max Christie. Shortly thereafter, the former executive director Doug Parker asked if I would consider being on the board.

What do you hope to see in the future for OMWA?
I jumped at the chance as I see the organization playing a larger and larger role in policy formation and advocacy for an industry that must constantly stay on top of current technology and a changing political landscape.

What would you say to a 16-year-old student considering a career path, in water?
Go for it! It’s a rewarding career with endless opportunities.

Never stop learning. Take every opportunity over the years to continually update your education.

Port Perry, Ontario is where I was born, but Cookstown Ontario is home.

What brought you to Ontario?
I was born here.

My first “real” job was a tour guide for a bus company.

What challenges have you had to overcome in your career?
The most important tool in my tool box is communication skills, something that I must always work to fine tune.

What’s this thing you call free time????

What is something quirky about you?
I collect cookbooks…..but I don’t cook.

What was your most prized toy as a child, and why?
Whatever my brothers were playing with at the time. Apparently I was a bit of an annoyance to them.
