A member of a cross-functional and engaged team, the Utilities Technician will work in an environment that prides itself on service excellence and environmental stewardship. With a focus on continuous improvement and improved work efficiency, you will focus on improving operating and maintenance efficiency throughout the various water distribution systems and be part of the team delivering a safe drinking water supply to the public.
You will monitor and witness site commissioning for new sub-division development (including swabbing, flushing, tie-ins) review water commissioning plans and coordinate with contractors, maintenance and repair of the water distribution system (water mains, valves, fire hydrants and service connections). You will also conduct utility locates: water, wastewater, stormwater, fibre and traffic lights, seasonal flushing of water lines, maintains existing valves, and implements distribution system maintenance strategies for valve exercising and hydrant maintenance and tagging.
We are seeking a dedicated and driven self-starter who thrives in a collaborative work environment, understands the merits of high safety standards, and has a strong sense of community and customer service. Your high school diploma or recognized equivalent is complimented with your status as a Licensed Plumber or Water Meter Installer (as governed by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities).
Ministry of the Environment, minimum Operator-in-training (OITs) Certifications are required, as is a minimum of two years’ experience performing operational and maintenance duties in a water distribution system would be an asset. Experience performing locating, marking, and mapping utility lines will be an asset. A Valid Class G driver’s licence in good standing is required, as is the availability to be on-call after regular working hours as part of a rotation; as you may be required to be on the on-call roster (if trained in water treatment, water distribution and supply is adequately completed) to respond to on-call within a reasonable period of time.
